Director or VP, Global Environmental Sustainability Lead

The Global Environmental Sustainability Lead oversees News Corp’s approach to environmental responsibility with the goals of minimizing the company’s environmental impact, growing our businesses sustainability and inspiring others to take action. Reporting to the Global Director of ESG Initiatives, the Global Environmental Sustainability Lead works collaboratively with corporate and business unit leadership, employees and customers to implement and evolve efforts to achieve the company’s sustainability goals

Key Responsibilities:


  • Oversee the implementation and evolution of News Corp’s Global Environmental Initiative (GEI), our environmental sustainability program
  • Collaborate with business unit and department leaders to set business-specific goals, strategies and policies in support of the company’s global goals
  • Manage carbon footprint data gathering, analysis and verification with consultant support
  • Identify opportunities to accelerate progress on emissions-reduction goals, including through energy-efficiency and renewable energy projects
  • Partner with procurement leadership to drive improved environmental performance with suppliers
  • Prepare submissions to CDP and other third-party sustainability surveys
  • Prepare and deliver reports, presentations and proposals to company leadership and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to various internal and external communications (ESG Report, employee newsletters, website updates)
  • Conceive and help organize sustainability-related employee engagement, including education programs and volunteer activities
  • Develop and maintain appropriate documentation and records including budgets and other financials
  • Serve as company's sustainability SME, keeping abreast of evolving environmental regulations, standards and industry trends, and provide recommendations to inform future programs and initiatives

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years experience in environmental management/sustainability-focused roles
  • Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in related field 
  • Thorough and current knowledge of sustainability practices, and applicable laws and regulations
  • Pragmatic thinking about improving sustainability practices and skill in developing cost/benefit analyses of the impact of corporate sustainability decisions
  • Knowledge of science-based targets and environmental sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g. SBTi, TCFD, CDP)
  • Ability to translate technical topics into terms that are meaningful to more general audiences
  • Detail oriented self-starter who can influence across functions and diverse stakeholder groups
  • Ability to create, interpret and execute a budget
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and multitasking skills

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in a large, complex global organization
  • Experience in a corporate setting
  • Experience in key relevant environmental issues as they relate to corporate operations (i.e., energy management/efficiency, waste reduction, green real estate), supply chain sustainability strategies and employee engagement

Location, Workplace, and Travel

  • Located in New York, Washington, D.C., New Jersey or London 
  • Occasional travel to News Corp headquarters in New York City if based elsewhere and other travel as necessary
  • Work and travel in a sustainable manner consistent with News Corp’s sustainability goals and as a model for the company
