NorthPoint Development is seeking a Clean Energy Development Engineer to drive clean energy project development across the US with the goal of increasing our portfolio of commercial, industrial and distributed clean energy assets. The Development Engineer will work with a team to analyze, qualify, and quantify new project opportunities from our existing portfolio of over 300 large, grade-A industrial buildings. The candidate will perform technical due diligence on project feasibility and sales develop with customers and their technical staff for project approvals and signatures. This includes gathering project data to create proposals and options, issue RFPs to project developers, EPCs and O&M partners. Project work will be focused on front-end design evaluation, project modeling, detailed system design and documentation, submittal review and commissioning in close coordination with the VP of Energy and Sustainability and Director of Clean Energy Development. 

The ideal candidate will have a depth of experience in the design, engineering and analysis of photovoltaic systems and battery storage systems, ranging in capacity from 0.5 MW to 5 MW (both community solar and behind-the-meter tenant solar). Experience in proposal generation and financial metrics for PV systems and Power Purchase Agreements is preferred.

What You’ll Do

Key Responsibilities related to Growth, Leadership, and Development

  • Energy production modeling for projects in development (PVSYST, Helioscope, Plant Predict)
  • Battery dispatch modeling for projects in development (Excel, Matlab)
  • Site evaluation (remote and in-person) for project suitability and feasibility
  • Project pricing and value engineering exercises with an Estimator
  • Create preliminary and detailed engineering design of projects
  • Recommend and create primary project equipment BOQs (inverters, PV modules, batteries, etc.)
  • Technical diligence for new project opportunities, assessing accuracy of production estimates, site plans, product documentation and meteorological data
  • Support for RFPs, Development, and Acquisition conceptual design studies
  • Development of technical deliverables for RFP responses and proposals, both by self-performing, and coordinating external consultants

Who You Are

Primary Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5+ years of experience in renewable energy project development, design, analysis and construction
  • Proficiency with common renewable energy system modeling tools and packages, such as PVSYST, HOMER, Helioscope and Plant Predict
  • Expert with common CAD tools such as AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, advanced Excel skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with utility power systems and interconnection
  • Build energy modeling
  • LEED and sustainable building certification
  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional or PV Design Specialist certification
  • OSHA 10hr or comparable job-site safety certification


*The position may include 25% travel (or more) to project locations and partner offices.
