Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology(Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run higher education institution between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and become the first legally-independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”. HKUST(GZ) is located at No.1 Duxue Road, Qingsheng Hub Cluster, Nansha District, Guangzhou. The campus covers an area of about 1,669 mu (111.3 hectares) and is divided into two construction phases.The first phase covers an area of about 716 mu (47.7 hectares) with a floorage of about 636,000 square meters (63.6 hectares), which has been officially put into use in September 2022.The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures. HKUST(GZ) comprises four Hubs, namely Function Hub, Information Hub, Systems Hub, Society Hub and offers 15 postgraduate degrees. The OpportunityThere is growing recognition that a critical part of solving the climate crisis will involve decarbonizing supply chains. In the United States, where goods movement through ports exceeds, on average, $500 billion each month, transitioning our ports and associated freight transit systems to zero emissions will be essential. Over the next two years, a confluence of factors will create an opportunity to push for broad-scale electrification of ports and port operations: (1) unprecedented rates of cargo at US ports, (2) the availability of significant amounts of federal funding for zero-emission transition efforts, and (3) increased awareness of the health impacts of port diesel emissions on vulnerable communities. The FAST Zero Emissions Ports Campaign is poised to help turbo-boost existing advocacy efforts by improving coordination and channeling resources effectively.About the OrganizationFast Action on Super Pollutants Today (FAST) is an organization created to provide support to and increase capacity for advocates across the US working on campaigns to reduce super pollutants like methane, black carbon, and hydrofluorocarbons.The Zero Emissions Ports campaign was co-created by representatives of community-based organizations across different port regions throughout the US and through engagement with a set of zero emission transportation funders, including the Pisces Foundation, Climate Imperative, ClimateWorks Foundation, and Tempest Advisors. We are known for developing smart, objective analyses to address high-profile environmental challenges, leveraging a unique combination of analytic rigor and creativity.Position: The environmental/social/governance (ESG) consultant will work within IEc’s corporate sustainability practice on projects including:· Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG footprinting analyses. Scope 3 footprinting analyses often include lifecycle analysis and analysis of supply chain emissions· Business-case analysis of GHG mitigation options· Reporting and disclosures including developing analyses and content for ESG reports, TCFD appendices, and CDP reportingThe ESG consultant will also contribute to additional types of analyses and projects, such as climate business risk (TCFD) analyses; feasibility analyses required for energy and GHG target-setting; and circular economy economic and market analysis. Responsibilities: Design and implement project methodologies, analyze data, develop and apply models, write reports, present findings, and generally assist clients in refining solutions for managing energy and GHG challenges. Consulting work at IEc requires attention to detail, asking questions, strong communication skills, and organization skills, including ability to work independently, plan project schedules, and meet deadlines.
