The Campus Engagement Manager will build and lead a robust interdisciplinary student energy and climate community on campus. This work will include developing a strategy for fostering a unified campus community and creating and managing student-based programming, initiatives and events, as well as providing career development opportunities for students. The manager will be a self-starter able to create and execute programming under minimal supervision, balance competing priorities, and build active relationships with students and other stakeholders. The Campus Engagement Manager will report to the Senior Director of Communications and External Engagement.
- Develops a robust interdisciplinary climate and energy club with strong student engagement. Organizes weekly student programming driven by undergraduate student interests and ideas, including by hosting high-profile guest speakers and leading off-campus excursions to energy-related educational destinations.
- Develops a student internship program to place University of Chicago students in high-value internships, including summer internships in Washington, DC and other key locations. This includes building relationships with external energy and climate internship programs at various institutions, managing a summer internship stipend program, and maintaining a robust internship/fellowship database and promotional strategy.
- Works with the director of alumni relations to develop and implement a strategy for identifying and engaging alumni working in energy, climate and environment fields to serve as mentors for students. This includes by organizing monthly networking events (in-person and digital), developing a shadow program and expanding internship opportunities, and creating a networking database made available to students.
- Leads the management of student fellowship programs, including promotion and recruitment, in conjunction with administrative personnel throughout the University. Develops and manages other creative programming to supplement learning opportunities and create a fellowship community.
- Supervises young researchers in organizing a weekly lunch geared for interdisciplinary research presentations. Engages as needed in the programming for this series.
- Forges and maintains active relationships with student engagement professionals throughout campus, as well as key leads from each of the on-campus energy/environment/climate groups.
- Develops news stories highlighting student achievements, including through summer internship opportunities or other activities, as well as spotlighting alumni.
- Ensures students are knowledgeable about the energy, environment and climate educational initiatives, opportunities and classes on campus. This includes ensuring that the class database is updated and utilized.
- Manages the Institute’s student portal and weekly student newsletter, including by gathering and maintaining content on relevant news and events on and off campus as well as internship/fellowship opportunities.
- Serves as an EPIC representative at student activity fairs and at energy/environment/climate group meetings and events throughout campus. Leads all efforts surrounding Orientation Week activities.
- Provides support and advisement for student-driven initiatives.
- Ensures students are knowledgeable about EPIC programing and pursues event and initiative partnerships with students; solicits feedback on ways to improve EPIC programs and services for students.
- Provides support around all Institute events, especially in building a student audience and day-of organization.

- Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field. University of Chicago graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Minimum of three to five years of relevant experience.
- Working in a stakeholder engagement or program management role.
- Working with students or early career professionals.
- Building partnerships and initiatives and creating and managing events.
- Experience or interest in energy/environmental issues encouraged to apply.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), experience using web-based communication methods and tools such as MailChimp and WordPress or similar platforms.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently with a high degree of initiative and collaboratively as part of a team. Work effectively with management, staff, researchers, students, and outside vendors and collaborators.
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices for engaging young people, including through web, email and social media.
- Strategic and creative thinking, project management and planning skills. Manage and prioritize responsibilities, perform effectively in a fast-paced environment, and meet deadlines in a timely manner while maintaining professionalism and product quality.
