The Organization
The mission of the Wild Salmon Center (WSC) is to promote the conservation and sustainable use of wild salmon ecosystems across the Pacific Rim. Wild Salmon Center is an international organization with headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

The Position
The Washington Coast Senior Program Manager leads Wild Salmon Center’s conservation program on the Washington Coast and Olympic Peninsula. This program is dedicated to the conservation of wild salmon and steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula through the strategic protection and restoration of critical habitats, and the science-based management of regional fisheries. The person in this position must possess natural partnership building and communication skills, and have an ability to collaborate with and influence community members, fishermen, and government and tribal representatives.

The individual in this position is responsible for developing, funding, and implementing multi-year regional initiatives that protect wild salmon/steelhead habitat, and improve the health of wild fish populations. This requires the ability to define bold, yet achievable, long-term conservation goals; maintain the relationships and partnerships necessary to achieve them; and implement the day to day management activities necessary to build and advance the program.
The position requires a thorough understanding of the habitat needs of wild salmon and steelhead, the factors limiting productivity of individual stocks, and the governance structures and policies that drive land use and fisheries management decisions.

Responsibilities. This position will:
• Develop and implement multi-year targeted conservation initiatives, including the establishment of interim milestones to assess progress;
• Build strategic relationships and partnerships with angling communities, community leaders, NGOs, and key state, federal government and tribal leaders;
• Engage in Olympia and D.C. legislative affairs to build understanding of and support for key initiatives; and
• Advocate for wild fish conservation through the integration of new and exisiting science into management decision-making.

Key Qualifications
• Five or more years of professional experience directing and managing a conservation program;
• Understanding of tribal sovereignty, and the co-management of salmonid fisheries in Washington State and the Olympic Peninsula;
• Leadership skills and the ability to negotiate, influence, and collaborate with diverse groups of people within the natural resource conservation and management community – and communities affected by these decisions;
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills; effective, diplomatic and friendly communication style;
• Habitat restoration project management experience;
• Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a remote environment (self-direction is a must);.
• Flexibility to travel (mostly in-region; periodically out-of-state); and
• Experience working in the Olympic Penisula.
A Bachelor’s degree in natural resource science or a related field.

Hours of Work
This is a full-time regular position that is exempt from federal Fair Labor Standard Act overtime rules.

This full-time position will be located on the Olympic Pennisula in Grays, Clallum or Jefferson Counties.

The compensation package includes a competitive salary and excellent fringe benefits including vacation, retirement plan match, medical and dental plan, life insurance and disability coverage. Salary range minimum is $75,000, however the salary offered will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
