The Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Sustainable Design beginning Fall 2019. Expectations include but are not limited to creating and teaching distance learning courses in a developing curriculum aimed at designing sustainable technologies and systems in the built environment. The position is supported by a SUNY Performance Investment Fund Clean Energy Workforce Grant. The role of distance learning at SUNY Oneonta is one that is connected to the mission of the College and involves providing access to quality educational opportunities that extend beyond traditional offerings. Located in the Leatherstocking Region of New York State, SUNY Oneonta is a mid-size, public, liberal arts and sciences college with a pre-professional focus. The College enrolls approximately 6,500 students in a wide variety of bachelor’s degree programs and several graduate certificates and degrees. Duties include but not limited to: creating distance learning teaching modules in sustainable design for multiple courses (year one of the position); teaching the newly developed courses, providing opportunities for students to earn industry-specific credentials (i.e. LEED Green Associate® and Building Energy Modeler Professions; summer after year one and in year two of the position); collaborating with a network of faculty and staff committed to delivering clean energy workforce development and effective distance learning outcomes; and supporting development of in-house capacity of staff to certify new and existing campus buildings across SUNY.
Required Qualifications: advanced degree in sustainable design, architecture, engineering, landscape design or related field; environmental coursework; experience designing distant learning coursework; ability to teach green building design; successful candidate must have LEED AP credentials.
Preferred: PhD in an environmental discipline or related field; experience delivering distance learning coursework; experience in facilities planning and construction; excellent written communication skills; experience teaching in higher education; and experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience.
