In addition to reducing the carbon footprint of its own operations, Legrand is also working to reduce the embedded carbon in the products it manufactures thereby contributing to an improved carbon profile in the building sector.
The successful candidate will manage the planning and implementation process to help drive the execution of Legrand North & Central America initiatives to achieve energy and carbon emission reduction targets within the organizational perimeter. This position is located within the Legrand North & Central America entity, which is headquartered in West Hartford, CT.
What Will You Do?
With input from Director, EHS, VP, Sustainability, Operations leaders and Carbon Council Leader and members develop a strategic framework and multi-year plan for achieving near and mid-term carbon emission and energy consumption reduction (Scope 1 and 2) targets, including identification and evaluation of multiple methods, e.g. conservation, technology upgrades, process improvements, green power purchase etc.
Develop and implement a program to deliver energy audits, assessments, project identification and implementation to achieve fulfillment of multi-year carbon emission and energy consumption reduction strategy.
Build strong relations with Operational leaders and their teams and provide ongoing guidance and support on energy consumption reduction and/or carbon mitigation opportunities; business case development and project implementation; development of site level energy management competencies; utility relations and other topics as needed.
Promote employee awareness of Legrand’s energy and carbon reduction goals and lead efforts to increase employee engagement in achievement of energy reduction targets.
Ensure LNCA has and consistently deploys a robust suite of tools to accurately report, analyze and forecast carbon emission scenarios.
Work to leverage all available government and utility incentive programs and contribute to the design of future generation programs. Team with finance, operations, strategic procurement and legal staff to review or design appropriate agreements or contracts relevant to energy services or clean power.
Ensure adherence to LNCA Corporate Energy Policy and update the policy as needed to reflect the full extent of commitments or standards necessary to achieve carbon emissions reduction targets. Contribute to the development or enhancement of LNCA internal policy positions to drive needed behavior and decisionmaking to support achievement of carbon and energy reduction goals.
Provide support to senior leadership in the engagement of external activities associated with carbon and energy management and public policy development. In coordination with the VP, Sustainability, represent LNCA with government agencies and national labs, external organizations in the realm of carbon and energy management and policy. Confer with industry peers and serve on relevant industry and professional organizations for the purpose of improving Legrand’s capacity to achieve its SBTi goals, share its experience and demonstrate leadership to the achievement of carbon emission mitigation and adaptation goals.
Help assess the impact of current or potential government regulatory, legislative or other climate change or energy related policies on LNCA energy and business performance; apprise appropriate internal stakeholders and collaborate to develop appropriate action or risk management plans.
Work closely with the Director, EHS to ensure close alignment of energy/carbon strategy and initiatives to the ISO 14001 management system and collaborate with other Sustainability teams and Sustainability corporate staff as needed or directed.
Perform other duties as required
Bachelor’s in Engineering (Electrical, Energy, Environmental, Mechanical)
Masters Degree in Environmental or Sustainability discipline desirable
Certified Energy Manager (CEM); knowledge of ASHRAE energy standards
Certified ISO 50001 auditor a plus
Minimum 7-10 years in active energy management (planning, assessing, project management, analysis, forecasting) in the manufacturing or building environment with evidence of working effectively across functions, business units and a range of sites and facilities to achieve tangible reduction of energy consumption/carbon emissions and higher energy productivity.
Experience in serving on or managing cross-company sustainability or environmental teams and/or initiatives.
Experience in financial analysis of energy/carbon reduction initiatives and/or demonstrated aptitude to learn and team with financial professionals within the organization to perform cost-benefit analysis, including total cost of ownership.
Self-starter, highly motivated and passionate to work to drive sustainability and carbon emission reduction initiatives at the enterprise level. Enthusiasm for learning and applying new concepts and technologies designed to enhance energy and carbon management. Appetite for understanding and shaping the policy initiatives that enable companies to achieve their carbon emission reduction targets.
Demonstrated competency and successful track record in building and industrial energy management as evidenced by verified reductions in energy consumption and/or carbon emissions. Experience in deploying renewable or other clean energy technologies.
Excellent analytical abilities and ability to develop/deploy tools to accurately measure and forecast energy consumption and carbon emissions at the site and source level. Ability to detect patterns, identify root cause, and translate detailed information into higher level trends and implications. Knowledge of energy modeling and simulation techniques.
Exceptional computer and software skills (Excel, Smart Sheets, ACCESS, PPT, etc.) and highly adept at developing and delivering technical information in an accessible manner to various levels of the organization.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to relate at all levels of an organization from factory floor through executive leadership, build rapport and trust and inspire collaboration across sites and functions. Ability to communicate effectively with international colleagues.
Superior organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities. Able to evaluate situations, identify options and implement effective solutions quickly and efficiently.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (estimated 35-40% of time)
