About the Position:
The OIA Director of Sustainable Business Innovation is an executive level position that oversees all sustainability programs. This position ensures the programs are aligned with board approved strategies and management team objectives.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Oversee OIA’s core pillar on sustainable business, including:
Lead strategic planning, budgeting, and program management oversight for the Sustainable Business Innovation department.
Oversee the Sustainability Working Group: coordinate input and direction from membership and key stakeholders, and develop/operate programs that reflect the needs of membership and support the strategic direction.
Achieve widespread adoption of the Higg Index in the outdoor industry and the broader apparel, footwear, and gear industries.
Ensure the continued global leadership of OIA and the outdoor industry in sustainability, including identifying and capitalizing on innovation opportunities and strategic partnerships
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop strategic plans and goals for the department, ensuring that all operational initiatives and programs have a clear road map to the desired outcome.
Develop resourcing plans to achieve the strategies and goals, including budgets and project plans; monitor and report on strategic indicators and completion of goals.
Coordinate input and direction from the membership and key stakeholders to ensure development of programs and goals that reflect the needs of the membership and support the strategic direction.
Participate in overarching OIA strategic planning processes with OIA board and staff.
Oversee and provide input into the successful implementation of SBI and Sustainability Working Group programs.
Responsible for department profit and loss, projections and growth. Manage P&L to annual board approved budget.
Develop value propositions for membership models, specific projects, education, and other value add opportunities.
Identify, recommend, and secure appropriate strategic partnerships.
Responsible for performing all managerial functions of hiring, evaluating, disciplining and approving direct reports and contractors.
Oversee the Sustainability Working Group, SWG Advisory Council, and SBI Board Committee.
Uphold OIA’s global leadership position in sustainable business and speed the implementation of shared best practices via conceptualizing and executing innovative programs and partnerships.
Ensure widespread adoption of the Higg Index in the outdoor industry. Champion the tool both within and outside the outdoor sector. Ensure any content updates are relevant to the outdoor sector. Provide appropriate education and communications tools to accelerate tool adoption.
Demonstrate tangible impact reduction across the outdoor sector.
Monitor relevant government regulations and NGO trends.
Responsible for performing all supervisory functions of hiring and evaluating department staff.
Proven ability to manage a P&L, drive revenue and negotiate successfully.

Required Education and Experience:
Five (5) years program management and supervisory experience.
Degree in Sustainability, Business Administration or related field
Computer literate in a Windows environment: Excel, Word and Power Point.
Preferred Education and Experience.
Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience in the outdoor industry considered a plus.
