The Stern CSB Mission and Team: New York University’s Stern Center for Sustainable Business (Stern CSB) is a rapidly growing team that shares the common vision for A Better World Through Better Business. With this vision, the Stern CSB seeks to accelerate the global transition to the next phase of capitalism - a system whose broader aim is to create long-term, sustainable stakeholder value - through its research, teaching, and work with corporate and non-profit partners.
The Stern CSB is building its portfolio of work with corporate and non-profit stakeholders, and is in need of a full-time research associate with extensive finance and accounting experience who is enthusiastic about our mission and wants to play an active part in growing the team’s research and delivering practical solutions for sustainability practitioners and investment professionals.
We take a holistic approach to sustainable business and consider environmental, social, governance and economic risks and opportunities. Our research agenda targets what we see as the key barriers to companies embedding sustainability in their corporate strategy, which includes making the business case for more sustainable practices. Therefore, a large portion of our research and work with corporate and non-profit partners focuses on developing and implementing a more comprehensive model for quantifying and monetizing the business case for sustainability. Among our past and current projects, the Stern CSB team quantified and monetized the business and societal benefits delivered by a deforestation free beef supply chain in Brazil; and, identified new metrics for measuring the value delivered through more sustainable practices in the automotive industry.
Your Contribution to the Stern CSB: In joining the Stern CSB team, you will be an active contributor to our ongoing research program and work with corporate and non-profit partners. You will help shape our research agenda through active and ongoing discussion with members of the Stern CSB team, the review of emerging trends in sustainable business, and engaging with stakeholders of the Stern CSB. You will also help execute that research agenda by working directly with the Director of Corporate Research and Engagement to identify, design, and implement new projects that are aligned with our research priorities; manage student research assistants and interns supporting those projects; develop and refine our monetization models; analyze data; write and disseminate publications for academic and business management journals; prepare presentations that promote the Stern CSB’s research agenda for conference presentations; and, represent the Stern CSB at industry and academic events.
