With over 24 years of experience, in excess of 160 member companies and more than $500M in technology demonstration projects to its credit, CALSTART has been instrumental in building the necessary public-private partnerships to bring promising vehicles, fuels and propulsion systems to the market. The organization currently has major programs to directly assist the medium to heavy-duty truck and transit bus industry with the development and deployment of new technologies. It also operates projects involving biofuels, advanced passenger cars, clean fuel infrastructure, enhanced public transit, and providing industry trend and policy information.
Our ideal candidate will have the necessary technical skills, experience and enthusiasm to play a direct and active role in supporting and ideally managing a wide variety of advanced transportation analysis projects – particularly analyzing performance of clean vehicle technologies and fuels and associated business case benefits – and must be able to perform the following tasks with strong competency:
• Plan and conduct analytical activities, including vehicle data acquisition and evaluation projects,- and economic business case assessments:
o Work with fleets and vehicle manufacturers to acquire and analyze vehicle performance data as well as help developing characteristic drive cycles.
o Help conduct industry wide assessments using a variety of survey tools to develop conclusions about the status of technologies and market demand;
o Bring together diverse stakeholders groups and build consensus around clear technology commercialization goals and objectives;
• Apply strong levels of project management discipline to plan, budget, execute, cost track, ensure quality and maintain schedule on projects;
o Write, organize and prepare high grade proposals, clear customer correspondence and compile thorough project reports in a timely manner;
o Help plan, pursue and manage technology and demonstration partnerships;
• Competently represent CALSTART at industry meetings and high profile events;
o Present technical concepts in a clear and compelling way to diverse audiences using websites, publications and presentations;
Necessary Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with five (5) plus years of work experience, preferably in the transportation or environmental industries. They will have a strong technical, analytical or engineering background and be able to demonstrate a strong comfort level when dealing with and understanding technologies and technical issues. A high degree of competence in using spreadsheets and large datasets is required. Strong writing and communications skills are essential and candidates must have the capability of presenting to and working with industry groups. Candidates must have a questioning mind and be able to think strategically. The candidate must work well in a team environment, display strong personal initiative and be driven by a passion for the clean technology industry.
Additional Skills and Experience
The following skills and experience are highly preferred. They will be viewed favorably and will provide an advantage:
• Experience with vehicle data collection systems and analysis;
• Knowledge of transportation and in particular the heavy duty vehicle industry;
• Expertise in, Technical Data Analysis, Life-Cycle Cost Analysis , Financial Analysis, or Economic Modeling;
• Specific expertise with advanced propulsion systems and fuels including natural gas, biofuels, electricity, hydrogen, fuel cells and energy storage;
• An advanced degree.
Compensation and Benefits
CALSTART offers a strong compensation package. In addition to competitive salary, CALSTART currently offers employees a company-paid HMO health plan including dental, and vision care. The compensation plan also includes a retirement plan equivalent to 8 percent of the annual salary. CALSTART allows for flexible work hours and encourages tele-commuting, as appropriate, and provides funding for transit. The organization also has a strong interest in employee growth and skills development.
The position is ideally planned to be located in the CALSTART Pasadena, California office. Candidates might be considered for location in the Northern California (Richmond), Colorado (Denver) or Northeast (Brooklyn) offices if a compelling case is made. Relocation assistance is not available.
