Reporting to the Director, Institutional Relations (IR) and working as part of an international team of fundraising professionals, the Manager, Institutional Relations will be charged with growing relationships and securing funding from foundation and corporations, as well as multilateral and bilateral agencies including USAID, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and the Green Climate Fund. He/she will manage a distinct donor portfolio, featuring emphasis on prospects who fund work in Asia and Africa, with the goal of meeting short-term revenue targets and adding to the long-term pipeline of government funding for future years. The Manager, Institutional Relations will also be responsible for ensuring timely and quality reporting to all institutional funders and serve as the direct supervisor for the Coordinator, Grants Management. This position plays a key role in building relationships with donor agencies, partners and contractors and works closely with senior program staff, field staff, and RA’s Finance Department to develop high quality proposals and reports.
Manage a donor portfolio inclusive of foundation and corporate donors as well as bilateral and multilateral government donors, with a focus on funders who support work in Asia and Africa, ensuring regular and efficient internal and external communications and advancing successful funding applications;
Work across the institution with units and departments in different geographic locations to lead the quality writing and editing of proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and reports for institutional donors in line with the deadlines;
Serve as direct supervisor for Coordinator, Grants Management and ensure timely and quality reporting to all institutional funders of RA;
Work closely with the Director, Institutional Relations as well as Finance and Program staff to advance Rainforest Alliance fundraising strategies and meet the team’s revenue goals for both government and foundation revenue, contributing substantively to decision making processes;
Collaborate closely with colleagues on the Institutional Relations team who are based in the Netherlands, Jakarta, and London to coordinate on larger fundraising strategies and ensure complementary actions
Carefully track budgetary projections for each donor in his/her portfolio within donor database;
Represent the Rainforest Alliance at both internal and external meetings/workshops/conferences/events;
Engage regularly with contacts at key donor agencies to stay apprised of bilateral and multilateral funding programs and opportunities in the areas of international development, poverty alleviation and environmental conservation; and
Other tasks as assigned.
This position will serve as the direct supervisor for the Coordinator, Grants Management.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Relationship management: Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with major funders/donors;
Communication skills: in verbal and written form, can articulate with conviction the work and aims of the organization; adapts style to situation and audience; and
Multi-tasking: Ability to advance multiple projects simultaneously and at a high level, while coordinating closely with other staff members and being mindful of tight deadlines
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred;
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in institutional fundraising, including significant background with government fundraising and track record of securing six and seven figure gifts;
Significant experience working externally with institutional funders as well as with internal relationship management for these type of funders;
Strong understanding of grants management processes;
Significant experience with reporting to institutional funders;
Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as be an effective team member;
French language fluency preferred;
Strong budgeting and people management skills;
Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, work environment – preferably within a global organization;
Experience with/knowledge of conservation and/or community development issues preferred;
Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of time;
High degree of skill in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) required; and
Experience with Salesforce preferred.
