Description and Responsibilities
Ceres is looking for a skilled, organized, and strategic communications professional to coordinate, develop, and deliver the organization’s internal communications. The role will support the organization’s executive leadership in developing effective information-sharing communications efforts that enhance employees’ understanding of Ceres mission, our unique theory of change, and our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The Manager will help educate, inform and update employees about changes to organizational policies, programs, and employee benefits. This position could also serve as expanded capacity for sharing high-level messaging to the Ceres Board of Directors and President’s Council, as well supporting crisis communications efforts; whether internal or external communications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead on providing executive and organizational communications in support of the Executive Team in line with our organizational management priorities including crisis and change management.
Support the Executive and Program Management Teams in delivering messages that positively engage 150+ staff and communicate changes to Ceres’ policies, programs and employee benefits.
Work closely with the Communications and Marketing Team (MarComms) to effectively highlight programmatic impact advancing the organization’s sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
Develop a robust communications strategy and calendar in partnership with leadership and MarComms staff.
Participate in the development of Ceres’ intranet and manage content and information flow to build a strong, vibrant culture where Ceres employees are informed and engaged.
Maintain organizational and team staffing charts on the intranet and other internal systems and portals to facilitate collaboration, internal knowledge, and efficient communication among staff, especially in a remote work environment.
Review, edit, and collaboratively produce content for a range of internal communications channels.
Work closely with the MarComms team to coordinate on the development and scheduling/distribution of internal and external messages and collateral to ensure timely and relevant communications and consistency in brand messaging/writing and design.
Assist with the development of internal messaging and marketing for Human Resources and DEI teams to enhance overall culture and morale.
Work in close collaboration with MarComms team to ensure that internal messages are consistent and coordinated with external communications, and vice versa.
Manage messaging and communication activities to support all internal organization-wide employee gatherings, including bi-weekly Staff Updates and the annual staff retreat.
Five years of work experience in nonprofit or advocacy or corporate or crisis communications and/or marketing.
Superb communications, research, fact-checking, messaging development and writing and editing skills.
Experience in internal brand building and marketing, and using a variety of mechanisms to reach employees with key messages.
Ability to work as part of a team and take a collaborative approach and to deliver independent projects.
Prior experience managing organizational intranet or other tools to keep staff educated.
Ability to work quickly, on deadline and independently, in a fast-paced writing environment.
Demonstrated passion and knowledge of climate change, sustainability and environmental justice issues.
Ability to work quickly, and on deadline, and independently.
Knowledge of AP writing style guidelines and other best practices for writing, preferred.
