The City of Roanoke is seeking a Geographic Information System (GIS) Technician for the Stormwater Division in the Department of Public Works in support of the Division’s mission of “Creating a Clean Water Legacy for the Citizens of Tomorrow.” The successful candidate will provide GIS and data support for all aspects of the Division including: (1) Utility administration and MS4 compliance, (2) capital drainage and water quality projects, (3) field operations (e.g. asset inventory, maintenance, street sweeping, storm drain cleaning), (4) public education and outreach, (5) monitoring and science. The successful candidate will have direct responsibility for spatial and non-spatial data collection, editing, quality control, analysis and mapping with limited oversight from the Division’s GIS Specialist. The selected applicant will also be expected to support the GIS Specialist for application development (e.g. ArcGIS Collector, Survey123) and integration with third party applications (e.g. VueWorks, WinCan). Candidate must be able to demonstrate prior experience and working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, and will be expected to acquire capabilities with ArcGIS Online, Collector and Survey123. Candidate will also need strong Excel skills and the ability to learn to use scripting tools (e.g. Python, R) in a limited capacity to solve data management and analysis problems.
