Macmillan is a group of media companies in the United States held by Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck, based in Stuttgart, Germany, which publishes a wide range of books, magazines, and digital products for the consumer and education markets. Our American publishers include Farrar, Straus and Giroux, Henry Holt & Company, W.H. Freeman and Worth Publishers, Bedford/St. Martin’s, Picador, Roaring Brook Press, St. Martin’s Press, Tor Books, Hayden McNeil, Macmillan Children’s Group, Macmillan Audio and Bedford Freeman & Worth Publishing Group. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to reflecting a broad representation of differences --race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, physical ability, age, family status, economic background and status, geographical background and status, and perspective — in our workplace. The successful candidate for this position will be an employee of Macmillan Publishing Group, LLC.

At Macmillan, we strongly believe that finding a sustainable future is necessary not only in our business, but also for our world. Sustainability is an increasingly important part of publishing due to the significant use of natural resources as well as an area of growing interest among authors, readers, and publishing employees. Because of this, we have committed to addressing sustainability in the most serious way. In 2010, corporate sustainability became part of the very mission of Macmillan. As part of this effort, we decided to focus on CO2 emissions as our most pressing issue, with a goal of a 65 percent reduction in our carbon footprint (over our 2010 baseline) by the end of the current decade in 2020. We’ve made great strides since 2010 and continue to do so as we approach the end of the decade. The ideal candidate will have an interest in books and sustainability and be able to combine the two in a working environment. Some of the Intern’s responsibilities will be assisting in analyzing GHG data, updating website content, researching areas and opportunities for improvement and writing sustainability newsletter tips.
