Established in 1893, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is a green leader among public gardens with a mission to inspire and educate all with the beauty and importance of plants; to advance sustainability and promote human and environmental well-being through action and research; and to celebrate our historic glasshouse.

Phipps is seeking a full-time Facilities Manager to manage the maintenance of all buildings, exterior grounds and gardens, ensuring facilities are prepared for daily operations to meet the highest guest service standards. This includes oversight of mechanical systems including electrical, heating and cooling, plumbing etc., as well as the proper set-up for special exhibits and guest areas. The Facilities Manager will assist the Director of Facilities and Sustainability in establishing maintenance policies and procedures, as well as developing and implementing safety and security measures. The Facilities Manager is responsible for training, supervising and directing maintenance staff in maintaining, cleaning and repairing the facilities and equipment at Phipps. Other responsibilities include managing project needs and timelines for the installation of special exhibits and flower shows, including the building of props, electrical work, coordinating with contractors, etc. The Facilities Manager also takes a lead role in promoting sustainability at Phipps, implementing and tracking LEED requirements.

The qualified candidate must have strong organization and management skills, in addition to considerable knowledge of basic trades and mechanical systems, as well as material, equipment and tools used in cleaning, maintenance and repair of buildings and garden areas. Two or four-year degree in an appropriate field and prior botanical garden, landscape installation and/or maintenance experience are required, as well as a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. Familiarity with sustainability principles, including the Living Building Challenge, LEED, WELL, and SITES is preferred.
