As part of our People & Culture (P&C) Team, you will work closely with our Director of People & Culture to ensure a just and equitable work culture as they work toward a green a peaceful future.

Reporting to the Director of People & Culture, the Employee Relations Manager will administer and provide guidance, support, training and counsel to staff and managers in matters of employee relations, compliance, policies & procedures, performance management and other employment legal matters. You will work to find solutions that reduce risk, and ensure a fair, consistent approach to employee relations practices. Additionally you will create programs and initiatives that help to support positive relations between staff and the organization with the goal of promoting employee engagement and satisfaction within the organization. The responsibilities of this role are 80% reactive employee relations, working on workplace investigation, consultations, mediations, and challenging employee situations. Balancing time between the reactive and proactive elements, training, policy development & culture cultivation will be critical for success in this role.

This is a full time, exempt, benefits eligible position based in Oakland, CA

The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for:

Assisting in the design and administration of P&C policies and procedures
Managing Employee Relations efforts to ensure that employment related information, processes, and procedures meet internal and external audit requirements.
Investigating and resolving employee complaints while providing long term solutions to address areas of tension or disagreement
Providing guidance and participating in the resolution of employee relations issues which may include investigations, employee disciplinary actions , leave administration and conflict resolution.
Managing corrective action processes which may include providing recommendations, written documentation, and administering corrective action
Working with the Director of P&C to administer, follow-up and support; a measurement strategy to address organizational risks or culture
Ensuring organizational compliance with federal/state laws and consistent application of organizational policies and procedures including leave of absence programs
Maintaining knowledge of Greenpeace US and Greenpeace International policies, programs, laws, and issues
Establishing credibility throughout the organization with management and employees through creative problem solving and coaching
Promoting a high level of employee engagement, morale and motivation
Partnering with Legal leadership to design, cascade and promote standardized processes, templates, tools and/or technologies for use in managing employee relations activities, corrective action administration and escalated issue resolution protocols.
Supporting the onboarding and coaching of managers
Developing and recommending core People & Culture training programs for managers and supervisors that advance organizational values and ways of working.
Collecting and analyzing data, in audits and other assessments to identify trends, recommend direction, and provide guidance needed to adjust unfavorable trends and meet the needs of the organization.
Partnering with People & Culture Leadership and other stakeholders to develop and execute a proactive employee relations strategy focused on building leadership skills to promote employee engagement
Minimum requirements for the Employee Relations Manager include:

A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Human Resources with a depth of experience in Employee Relations
Knowledge of employment law and practices (with an emphasis on ADA, the interactive process for accommodation requests, and leave of absence requirements); understanding of Company policies, procedures, state and federal laws, with the ability to apply the knowledge to multiple situations
Ability to independently conduct a thorough investigation
Strong mediation and conflict resolution skills
Experience administering, leaves of absence, and legal compliance (COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA)
Exceptional written and verbal/nonverbal skills, along with finely tuned interpersonal skills and professional judgment. You must be able to demonstrate empathy toward employees and serve as their trusted resource
Have a track record as a successful change agent who can transform culture through people
A highly collaborative leadership style with the ability to partner with and influence key organizational leaders and build high functioning teams
Ability to develop and execute a proactive employee and labor relations strategy focused on building leadership skills to promote employee engagement
