Do you want to help advance the energy transition through research and analysis? The Director of Research works closely with the ACORE policy and programs team to analyze U.S. renewable energy policy and market scenarios through modeling tools such as JEDI, NEMS and ReEDS. This position will play a key role in creating high-quality original research and data analysis for policymaker and business audiences. The ideal candidate will have subject matter expertise on renewable energy and related business issues; have at least four years of research and analytical experience; and have a demonstrated track record of producing high-quality written materials.

While we were originally looking for this position to work out of our Washington, D.C. office, we are now also open to candidates who would work remotely. All staff are currently working remotely due to COVID-19.

Key job duties
• Work closely with ACORE’s policy and programs teams to model the economic and environmental effects of renewable energy deployment under varying market and policy conditions, including employment impacts and impacts on emissions
• Support the development and implemention of a research work plan that supports ACORE’s mission, philanthropic funding and member value
• Collaborate with ACORE’s management team, fundraising team, and subject matter experts to conceptualize, draft and edit high-quality publications
• Conduct market research on renewable energy, energy storage, electric transmission, ESG investing and the broader electric power sector
• Collegially cultivate and manage relationships with consultants and external partners working on ACORE publications or otherwise engaged in joint efforts
• Assist policy, programs, communications, corporate engagement and other internal teams in support of ACORE’s mission and organizational objectives
• Support other tasks as assigned

Required skills and knowledge
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as a social or natural science or technical discipline, or equivalent experience, is essential. Advanced degree or equivalent is preferred
• Experience with economic and environmental modeling of policy and market scenarios using tools such as JEDI, NEMS or ReEDS strongly preferred
• Subject matter expertise on the renewable energy sector, including understanding of energy and climate policies and renewable energy finance
• Excellent research, analytical, writing, editing and communication skills
• A minimum of four years of quantitative research and analytical experience, with prior experience producing reports, analysis, briefings and other written materials at a professional or academic institution
• Strong project management skills and experience leading cross-departmental projects
• Strong computer skills, including Excel and database management systems
• A collaborative and collegial work style
