Inspects existing structures for compliance with minimum building maintenance standards. Enforces the City's rental Certificate of Compliance program, the City zoning code, the inoperable vehicle ordinance, the weed and trash ordinance and other City codes. Receives, evaluates and investigates complaints relating to the above codes and canvasses for code violations, issuing orders and/or citations as needed. Tracks cases on computer database to assure timely compliance. Summonses non-compliant violators and testifies in court. Provides information at neighborhood meetings and works with other City departments and public service agencies.
Requires High School diploma or general education degree (GED) plus three to five years related experience or training in building construction or appraisal of residential and complex commercial/industrial properties; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must obtain Virginia Certification as a Building Maintenance Inspector issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development within 12 months of employment.
Salary: $33,735.52 - $53,976.78 Annually
