Business Development Manager, CPG Posted Jul 01
Fair Trade USA , Oakland, CA
Being in Business Development means you get to be part of the spark that creates new impact to farmers – we recruit new companies to create Fair Trade products, and help our current partners sell more. It’s a lot of work, but a lot of fun.

We're looking for someone to join our team to manage and build relationships with mid-sized to Fortune 500 food companies. You would support partnerships with some of the largest CPG companies in the world to successfully develop and sell Fair Trade products, particularly working with Fair Trade cocoa and sugar. This means working on supply-chains that connect with cocoa farmers primarily in Latin America and West Africa; and sugarcane farmers primarily in Belize and Paraguay. The products they sell into include confections, bakery items, bars, cereals, and most packaged products in the center aisle of the grocery store.

Day-to-day that means you will be (a) building relationships with medium-sized to Fortune 500 companies to educate them about the importance of Fair Trade and figuring out how it best works for their business, (b) understanding companies’ supply-chains, (c) helping register new companies and their new Fair Trade products, (d) responding to inquiries from current Fair Trade partners.

You'll have one of the most rewarding jobs on the planet - we're impactful, we're entrepreneurial, and we're fun. You'll love it.

You believe deeply that our current approach to the planet and its people doesn’t work, and you want to make things better
You understand how business works and how business-decisions are made, so you can figure out how a company can best fit Fair Trade into their business model
You're empathetic - you understand other people's problems, and are quick-on-your-feet in developing mutually beneficial solutions
You're outcome-oriented and know how to get things done
But you recognize that getting things done means playing well with others, so you’re a great coalition builder, whether with people on your team, in other departments, or in the food industry

Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree a plus
Minimum 3 years of professional work experience, preferably in the food industry or related experience
Strong knowledge of computer/internet skills, such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Knowledge of Sales Force or other CRM preferred
Strong presentation, storytelling and public speaking skills
Understand sustainable, economic, and social development programs and approaches
