Business Development, Conservation
Location: Remote, within United States
Application Deadline: May 17, 2021
We are looking for a business development professional who wants to use their skills to fight climate change and protect the environment.
Upstream Tech is a mission-driven technology company that creates decision-support technologies for conservation, agriculture, and low-carbon energy. We are growing quickly and building out our business development team that connects customers to our services.
Specifically, we are looking for a talented team member to help expand the reach and impact of our Lens work to enable informed conservation planning and monitoring.
The right candidate is driven by our mission, has experience in or a working knowledge of land and water conservation, should demonstrate excellent independent work ethic, and a desire to work closely with a driven, remote team. You will wear many hats in this role: identifying leads, presenting to prospective customers in sales meetings, managing sales processes through to close, and exploring new markets through which we can maximize global impact.
This role is part of our Growth & Partnerships team and will focus primarily on sales of Lens to land trusts and conservation organizations, and will also support growth and expansion to serve new markets.
Sales and business development:
Generate ongoing pipeline of potential customers for Lens.
Qualify leads, conduct outreach, and lead introductory demo meetings.
Support development and delivery of proposals.
Represent Upstream Tech at conferences and in sales meetings.
Conduct market research into new markets and applications for Lens, and develop and share understanding of customer needs and user stories for new applications.
Serve as internal voice of prospective customers by communicating clear user stories and sharing feedback with the product team.
You’d Be a Good Fit if:
You want to work at a small, impact-oriented company. We measure our success with a triple bottom line and put our principles before profits.
You're pragmatic and want to get things done without sacrificing quality.
You're humble, empathetic, and understand that giving and receiving honest direct feedback helps everyone to grow.
You’re a self-starter and able to manage your own time effectively and efficiently.
You have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, and can speak to a range of stakeholders with varying familiarity with technology.
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, environmental management, data science, engineering, energy); master’s degree preferred
3-7 years business development experience
Industry knowledge or experience around land and water conservation.
Experience with and comfort working with technology applications.
We encourage you to apply if you’re passionate about the issues we work on - even if you don’t meet every qualification.
We are proud to offer great benefits like 4 weeks of paid vacation and good health insurance plans (along with dental, vision and life insurance). We want our team to live full lives outside of work.
Remote, in a US time zone. We conduct business using technologies like Slack and video conferencing. We host a biannual in-person trip to work, bond, and celebrate our successes.
