Description & Responsibilities

Ceres is expanding its strategic communications and marketing team and launching a new marketing effort in 2019 as it celebrates its 30th year anniversary. We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented team member with exceptional organizational skills to help provide support to the Senior Department Director, the Digital Director, and the entire Communications and Marketing team. This is an excellent entry-level position for a strong communicator who is passionate about climate change and sustainability and interested in building skills and experience in strategic communications, media relations, messaging and writing, and digital marketing. This is a full-time position based in our Boston office and will report to the Senior Department Director of Communications and Marketing.

Specific duties include, but not limited to:
-Assist in research, messaging and writing needs for Ceres press releases, media advisories, and columns/blogs.
-Assist in developing pitches and pitching key Ceres experts and content to reporters and editors to generate news coverage for the organization.
-Using the PR Meltwater, manage and regularly update targeted media contact lists, and monitor and track earned media coverage and KPIs for Ceres and its global initiatives, producing weekly Wakelets and other detailed reports of coverage for board and grant reports.
-Update Salesforce regularly with earned media lists, media coverage and reporter communications and team workplans and goals.
-Conduct research as needed for writing projects and to inform media relations strategies that expand exposure to existing targeted audiences.
-Assist with providing research and writing support related to 2019 marketing deliverables including Ceres annual report and marketing one-pagers.

Support to the Senior Department Director, Communications and Marketing
-Provide administrative support on scheduling, travel, meeting preparation, calendar management, expense reports, reimbursements, and other tasks.
-Support in the management and cultivation of reporter relationships, partner organization communications staff, and investor and corporate communications staff including logistics for calls/meetings, materials preparation, and correspondence, as needed.

Communications and Marketing Department Support
-Work with Senior Department Director, Communications and Marketing to manage the weekly department meeting: scheduling meetings, developing agendas, recording minutes, arranging for outside speakers/trainers, and following up with action steps.
-Provide cross-cutting administrative and coordination support for entire department.
-Foster team culture and camaraderie through organizing department retreats, lunches, gatherings and celebrations.
-Serve as point person with IT team regarding communications/marketing team needs.
-Provide support as requested at organization-wide events, such as the Ceres Conference or Investor Summit on Climate Risk, and Ceres 30th Anniversary Gala.

-Associate or Bachelor degree preferred, or 2 years of experience where in-depth research and strong writing skills were developed.
-1-2 years of relevant, full-time work experience, required.
-Prior work experience in a newsroom or nonprofit a plus.
-Prior administrative experience strongly desired.
-Demonstrated interested in communications and marketing and/or journalism.
-Strong organizational and project management skills, and excellent attention to detail.
-Ability to evaluate workload and prioritize projects to meet deadlines.
-Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
-Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
-Able to manage multiple tasks at the same time, and shift quickly from one to the next.
-Able to work well independently and as a team member.
-Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and with different personalities.
-Desire to work in a mission-driven / nonprofit environment.
-Passionate about environmental or sustainability issues.
-Knowledge of media tracking and/or digital platforms, a plus. Salesforce proficiency a strong plus.
