Analysis and Planning Consultant 3 (Director Operations and Partnerships)
This position coordinates and supports sustainability programs across all operations and physical plants including areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, alternative fuels, food systems, water, environmental and social sustainability, waste management, green buildings, and environmental management systems, and the Sustainable Operations Council. It also builds partnerships with vendors and service providers to make the university's purchasing processes and supply chains more sustainable. Takes an integral role in planning campus sustainability initiatives, and carrying out strategies that aim for optimal and efficient use of the physical plant and facilities. Supports sustainable management of buildings and spaces, transportation, liaising with facilities management and engineering/architectural firms, and provides expertise to administrators, committees, and departments in above areas. Position incumbent will develop proposals and manage the formation of strategic partnerships and teaming arrangements with outside organizations, by liaising with industry partners and NGOs/trade organizations. (S)he will provide support for institutionalizing sustainable practices in campus operations, policies, and supply chain contracts. This position also participates in efforts to benchmark sustainability performance, facilitate collaboration, and develop resources for campus conservation. The person will work collaboratively with central administration, student groups, and academic leaders, to identify living lab opportunities, and connect academic and operational efforts to spur innovative approaches to campus sustainability.
This position reports to the Chief Sustainability Officer, Director of the Sustainability Institute. (S)he works on a day-to-day basis with many people from operations and physical plant, Finance and Business, food and dining services, auxiliary services and athletics, and liaises with sustainability committees on campus to facilitate sustainability in operations. The position leads and advocates for integration of sustainable principles and practices with campus space programming and management.
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree or higher in sustainability, environmental studies, sustainable architecture or engineering preferred.
Preferred qualifications relevant to the position, including complex project planning/management that includes data analysis, engagement of stakeholders and execution of plans or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong writing skills and experience in proposal writing. Advanced knowledge of and experience with sustainability best practices, principles, and procedures of sustainable operations and complete complex assignments. A strong commitment to inclusionary practices which support diversity across the university. Responsibility for the achievement of team goals, and provide direction for appropriate implementation of plans. Develop new techniques, practical concepts, programs or solutions and apply them to complex operating issues; typically work independently on complex work assignments, review progress and evaluate results and update management as appropriate; may direct and delegate work to lower-level staff.
Skills: Present ideas, concepts and instructions in a clear manner, and use persuasion and negotiation to build consensus and cooperation; excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to work at all levels of the organization. Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, operations managers, facilities staff, faculty, staff and students. Ability to propose, plan, administer and evaluate collaborative projects. Ability to schedule and manage multiple projects and priorities. Specific experience in the areas of sustainability policies, sustainable food systems, healthy living programs, conservation, energy, waste and/or water management is preferred. Experience within a University setting is preferred.
This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
